Can I just say that I am really super glad that Ignite was extended to two days this year? Because I am. Twice the awesomeness. I really hope they keep it like this for next year!
+ Today's group was myself, Kayla, Reneé, & Joe, who came in at 12:30 last night and was still up & ready to rock this morning. We had to wait for Kayla to get out of church and picked her up on the way. Of course, I needed to stop to get caffeine first. (I am so addicted to the root beer at McDonald's it's kind of funny*)
+ We got there about 12:30 and got fairly decent parking, so yay!
+ Heard the tail end of Lightswitch's set. Pretty good! I ended up buying their cd because it was really cheap when you get the t-shirt. And I got the t-shirt because I was in love with the design. It's fabulous. I will show you all later, possibly. Oh, and Joe got drumsticks from them & got them signed by the band! The guys of Lightswitch are really great and spent a lot of time at their booth, just talking with fans. They're 4 brothers and it's really obvious just by looking at them. All pretty cute too ;)
+ This group of guys made it their mission to get Joe to the front. And I made sure they sent me too, since I had to stay with Joe. They got us fairly close. Later they got us even farther and eventually we made it all the way to the front with only two people in front of us! So thank you awesome guys! They were lots of fun too. They annoyed the heck out of the girl next to me, but the banter between her & one of the other guys over BarlowGirl was great.
+ Tenth Avenue North was fabulous. I think I preferred seeing them in a smaller venue (I saw them with Sanctus Real & VOTA in September), but I enjoyed the audience more at Ignite. Everybody singing along and getting into it was waaaaaaaaay better than the tiny auditorium at Trinity (though we all know how much I love Trinity).
+ KJ-52 is freaking awesome. Joe really got into this one too! KJ took us on a trip through the 80s (all tying into his song "stuck in the 80s") and we did the Triller dance. Well, as much as we could all jam packed as we were. But it was fun! And his band kept playing 80s music and he kept yelling at them not to. Then he fired both of them, and we boo-ed him, so he said he'd give them a second chance & forgive all of us if we sang some Journey. So we all sang the first part of "Don't Stop Believing" (which btw, is Joe's fave song atm, so he loved that) before KJ cut us off. Then he realized that the majority of the crowd was born in the 90s, so we did a little from then too. He had the most entertaining performance, I think. Oh! And he sang the Mountain Dew Anonymous song!
+ BarlowGirl was good, but not super fantabulous, I have to admit. Like, they sang very well & I love their songs, but they didn't get the crowd pumped up like KJ or any of the bands to follow did. It was sad, but I still enjoyed their set! Love those girls.
+ Family Force 5. Oh my gosh, that was crazy. That band is insane! But in a good, entertaining sort of way. They dressed up in football uniforms, pads & all. And their fans are by far the craziest as well. One girl pushed her way to the front by me and I think she ended up hurting someone else in the process. She also would jump up & down and dance around, hitting people, and didn't care. I'm surprised security didn't kick her out. But the good crazy fans actually brought their own cardboard to breakdance on! FF5 cleared a circle in the middle & then those guys went out & did their thing! I wish I could have seen them, but I couldn't from where I was. Anyway, FF5 were definitely the best performers, as far as getting the audience involved.
+ SKILLET. YESSSSSSSS. I LOVE THIS BAND. The performance was spectacular & I loved every second of it! I hurt my neck and back from the headbanging & dancing, haha. And my arms were probably in the air the whole time, too, so those got real tired. They sang a lot of my favorites, including Hero! Which is the new song that is so new I couldn't even buy it off of iTunes & had to rip the sound from the music video (the irony of such is not lost of me). And this band can ROCK. The dark haired chick was insane! She can dance and headbang like nothing else, all while playing guitar. The coolest part, I think, were the two guys playing violin & cello on stage for a few of the songs. Definitely keeping true to the Skillet sound & it was very unique! The violinist actually started rocking out while playing--so hard he lost is glasses & had to play blind for a few minutes until his part was over. It was epic, truly epic.
+ At this point Joe & I gave up our awesome spots so that we could go get food. We were starving & tired & wanted to sit down, but I wasn't willing to leave before Skillet...
+ For most of Relient K's set Joe & I were seated (which are far back, there's a baseball diamond inbetween that we're not allowed on), but towards the end I convinced him to have us stand at the back of general admission. They played Deathbed! All 10 minutes of it! That was pretty cool! What wasn't cool was that we both had to go to the bathroom & had to wait out that song before we were willing to leave, haha! But yeah, we were far back, so I didn't get any pictures of them. I can tell you one thing though, Matt Theisson's hair is out of control. He looked way better with it short.
+ Third Day was last & we left about 20 minutes early to avoid the rush. Not to mention we're not crazy about them. I mean, I like them, yes, but I was okay with missing a few songs, too. Plus, all the munchkins were getting really tired. And my feet were killing me by this point! What I did hear, though, was very good & I sang along to a few!
+ Joe & I bought light-up glasses. They're pretty sweet. We are total dorks & we know it. ((I also got a sweet Skillet shirt!))
I am already looking forward to Ignite 2010! No idea who's playing, but I have no doubt that it will be freaking awesome!!
On a side note, my icon uses a picture I took at Ignite last year! That's Jon from Hawk Nelson, whom I love. He can be my HN husband, haha.***
*People usually say "it's not even funny" but with me, that never really applies. Usually the situation is funnier.
** I like footnotes lately. They're fun. I want a footnoterphone.
*** And yet again we see my major thing for guitarists. I'm so cliché, but I don't care.
